How to Get Wings (and Which Are Best)
Getting your first pair
The one exception to the Hardmode rule is the Fledgling Wings, which turn up in Sky Crates and Skyware Chests on Floating Islands and can be worn straight away. Every other pair waits for Hardmode, and the earliest of those are usually crafted: gather Souls (dropped by Hardmode enemies and bosses) plus a feather or light material, and combine them at a Hardmode anvil.
If you fish or explore, some wings come from chests and the Witch Doctor's shop at night, so check those before grinding souls.
How the tiers compare
Wings are ranked by flight time (how long you stay airborne) and horizontal speed. Early Hardmode wings give a few seconds of flight; late-game pairs nearly double that and climb faster.
- Early Hardmode: the first craftable soul wings — enough to cross gaps and dodge bosses.
- Mid Hardmode: post-mechanical-boss wings with longer flight and better climb.
- Endgame: the Celestial Starboard, with the longest flight and a built-in hover and upward boost, is the top pick — it drops from the Moon Lord in Expert and Master Mode, after the Lunar events.
