Terraria Class Setups

The best armor, weapons and accessories for every class at every stage of the game — Melee, Ranged, Magic and Summoner from your first night to the Moon Lord. Want it interactive instead? Step through it in the Class Planner →

Melee

The highest defense in the game and weapons that hit hard up close — swords, yoyos, flails and spears. Forgiving and durable, the classic first run.

Stage 1

Getting Started

Your first night — before any boss.

Tip: Grab any Enchanted Sword shrine you find — it carries you through the first hour.

Stage 2

First Bosses

Eye of Cthulhu and your world-evil boss.

Tip: Blade of Grass from the Jungle is a huge early damage spike.

Stage 3

Pre-Hardmode Peak

Skeletron down, gearing for the Wall of Flesh.

Tip: Night's Edge is the strongest pre-Hardmode sword — craft it before the Wall of Flesh.

Stage 4

Early Hardmode

Wall of Flesh beaten — Hardmode has begun.

Tip: The Shadowflame Knife from the hardmode Goblin Army is a standout early throw.

Stage 5

Pre-Plantera

All three Mechanical Bosses defeated.

Tip: Chlorophyte gear bridges here too; the Amarok yoyo is a reliable workhorse.

Stage 6

Pre-Lunar

Plantera and Golem cleared.

Tip: Beetle armor (after Golem) plus the Terra Blade is a powerhouse for the lunar events.

Stage 7

Endgame

Lunar Events and Moon Lord — the best gear in the game.

Tip: Solar Flare's dash + damage reduction makes melee the tankiest endgame class.

Ranged

Guns and bows that delete bosses from a safe distance — the strongest single-target damage at most stages, at the cost of buying ammo.

Stage 1

Getting Started

Your first night — before any boss.

Tip: Boomstick (Jungle) or The Undertaker (Crimson) are big early upgrades over a starter bow.

Stage 2

First Bosses

Eye of Cthulhu and your world-evil boss.

Tip: Fossil armor from the Desert is a strong, cheap ranged set; save coins for the Minishark.

Stage 3

Pre-Hardmode Peak

Skeletron down, gearing for the Wall of Flesh.

Tip: Molten Fury with Hellfire Arrows shreds the Wall of Flesh.

Stage 4

Early Hardmode

Wall of Flesh beaten — Hardmode has begun.

Tip: Daedalus Stormbow + Holy Arrows is famously the fastest way to farm the Mechanical Bosses.

Stage 5

Pre-Plantera

All three Mechanical Bosses defeated.

Tip: Megashark with Crystal or Chlorophyte Bullets is your all-rounder into Plantera.

Stage 6

Pre-Lunar

Plantera and Golem cleared.

Tip: Shroomite stealth bonuses make this the ranged power-spike; Tsunami (Duke Fishron) is optional but elite.

Stage 7

Endgame

Lunar Events and Moon Lord — the best gear in the game.

Tip: The Phantasm (Vortex Pillar) with the right arrows is one of the best DPS weapons in the game.

Magic

Mana-fuelled spells with huge variety — homing, piercing, and area weapons. Glass-cannon damage that leans on mana management and lower defense.

Stage 1

Getting Started

Your first night — before any boss.

Tip: Gem staves scale with the gem; Vilethorn (Corruption) pierces for easy early kills.

Stage 2

First Bosses

Eye of Cthulhu and your world-evil boss.

Tip: Demon Scythe from Hell is a powerful piercing spell long before Hardmode.

Stage 3

Pre-Hardmode Peak

Skeletron down, gearing for the Wall of Flesh.

Tip: Meteor armor makes the Space Gun cost zero mana — near-infinite fire for the Wall of Flesh.

Stage 4

Early Hardmode

Wall of Flesh beaten — Hardmode has begun.

Tip: Crystal Serpent (Hallow fishing) is a cheap, excellent early-Hardmode wand.

Stage 5

Pre-Plantera

All three Mechanical Bosses defeated.

Tip: Golden Shower lowers boss defense — pair it with any high-DPS spell.

Stage 6

Pre-Lunar

Plantera and Golem cleared.

Tip: Spectre armor's hood (healing) or mask (damage) lets you tune survivability vs. DPS.

Stage 7

Endgame

Lunar Events and Moon Lord — the best gear in the game.

Tip: Nebula armor's damage-boost pickups stack into the highest sustained DPS in the game.

Summoner

Summon minions and crack whips while you dodge — your damage keeps ticking even while you focus on movement. Lowest defense, highest skill ceiling, and the most fun for kiting.

Stage 1

Getting Started

Your first night — before any boss.

Tip: Start with the Finch Staff from a Living Tree, then craft a Flinx Staff for the Flinx Fur Coat set.

Stage 2

First Bosses

Eye of Cthulhu and your world-evil boss.

Tip: Bee armor (Queen Bee) adds a minion slot; the Imp Staff from Hell is a strong ranged minion.

Stage 3

Pre-Hardmode Peak

Skeletron down, gearing for the Wall of Flesh.

Tip: Obsidian armor boosts whip range and minion damage. Whips no longer stack as of 1.4.5 — crack your strongest single whip to tag enemies and let your minions pile on.

Stage 4

Early Hardmode

Wall of Flesh beaten — Hardmode has begun.

Tip: The Sanguine Staff (from the Blood Moon's Dreadnautilus) is best-in-slot for a long stretch.

Stage 5

Pre-Plantera

All three Mechanical Bosses defeated.

Tip: Blade Staff (Queen Slime) paired with a strong whip like the Firecracker is a top-tier setup here.

Stage 6

Pre-Lunar

Plantera and Golem cleared.

Tip: Spooky armor (Pumpkin Moon) pushes minion damage hard; the Morning Star is a high-tier whip.

Stage 7

Endgame

Lunar Events and Moon Lord — the best gear in the game.

Tip: The Stardust Dragon scales with every minion slot; the Terraprisma (Empress by day) is the ultimate optional pickup.

These are stage-by-stage targets, not a strict shopping list — use what you find. To pressure-test a weapon against a specific boss, run it through the DPS Calculator, and track your kills on the Boss Checklist.
